Last September, Brigitte from Congo came into Positive Action in Housing to ask for help. She had received removal instruction from the Home Office and was asked to present to the airport in order to be removed to Congo. As soon as she received this letter she abandoned her flat with her 9 year old daughter and her 5 year old autistic son. They became destitute and found shelter at friends. We have been helping the family with weekly payments from the Hardship destitution fund. We have advised her to get in touch with a solicitor and to get quickly organised in order to lodge a fresh claim. A month later, her new solicitor in London lodged a fresh claim. Last Friday the 1st of December, she has been granted INDEFINITE LEAVE TO REMAIN!!!! She will come soon to meet us to get advice in order to be re-housed in a permanent accommodation of her choice. This is a great example of how the destitution fund is useful. Elodie, Project Officer
